🌿 What is THCA?
THCA (Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid) is the raw, non-psychoactive precursor to THC found naturally in fresh hemp and cannabis plants. Unlike THC, THCA does not produce intoxicating effects in its natural state.
How THCA Works
THCA converts to THC through a process called decarboxylation—applying heat through smoking, vaping, or cooking. This chemical transformation activates the cannabinoid, unlocking its full effects.
🔬 Why Lab Testing Matters
At Pelayo Flora, every batch undergoes rigorous third-party lab testing. Here's what we test for:
Cannabinoid Potency
Verifies THCA percentage (typically 20-26% in our premium flower) and ensures compliance with federal THC limits.
Terpene Profiles
Identifies the aromatic compounds that give each strain its unique flavor, aroma, and effects.
Safety Screening
Tests for pesticides, heavy metals, mold, and contaminants to ensure purity and safety.
🌱 Understanding Terpenes
Terpenes are natural compounds that give hemp its distinct aromas and contribute to the overall experience. Common terpenes include:
Myrcene
Earthy, musky aroma. Found in mangoes and lemongrass. Known for relaxing properties.
Limonene
Citrus scent. Found in lemon peels. Associated with uplifting, energizing effects.
Caryophyllene
Spicy, peppery notes. Found in black pepper and cloves. May support stress relief.
Pinene
Pine aroma. Found in pine needles and rosemary. Linked to focus and alertness.
⚖️ Is THCA Legal?
Yes—when sourced from federally compliant hemp. The 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp and hemp-derived cannabinoids containing less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC by dry weight.
Important: While federally legal, some states have additional restrictions. We currently ship to all U.S. states where hemp-derived products are legal. Our checkout system automatically restricts orders to prohibited states.
📚 How to Use THCA Flower
THCA flower is versatile and can be consumed in several ways:
Smoking
Traditional method using a pipe, bong, or rolled into a joint. Heat activates THCA into THC.
Vaporizing
Cleaner alternative to smoking. Vaporizers heat flower to release cannabinoids without combustion.
Cooking/Edibles
Decarboxylate flower in an oven (240°F for 30-40 minutes), then infuse into butter, oil, or recipes.
🛡️ Storage & Freshness
Proper storage preserves potency, flavor, and quality:
- Airtight containers: Glass jars with tight seals prevent air exposure
- Cool, dark place: Avoid heat and light to prevent degradation
- Humidity control: 55-62% relative humidity keeps flower fresh without mold risk
- Shelf life: Properly stored THCA flower maintains quality for up to 1 year
